FAQ

Is official Simplified Chinese finished?
As of the Day One and 0.6.0 notes, NoShadow said professional Simplified Chinese localization was in progress and that the 0.6.0 Chinese option was an early, non-final version. Re-check the live Steam language list for the current build.
Was there a community translation?
Yes. The Day One announcement thanked volunteers for an unofficial Chinese translation already working in-game and pointed players to the Chinese Discussions section on Steam forums.
Which other languages were added later?
Update 0.8.0 added Polish, Turkish, and Korean according to the official patch notes.

What happened on Day One?

Scavland entered Early Access on September 4, 2026. The Day One patch post (Update 0.5.169) included a direct message to Chinese players:

  • Simplified Chinese had been incorrectly listed as supported on the Steam page at release.
  • That listing was removed until official localization was ready.
  • NoShadow apologized for the frustration and said its localization agency was working on the official Simplified Chinese version, expected within the next few weeks at that time.
  • In the meantime, the Chinese community assembled an unofficial translation already working in-game. Players were directed to the Chinese Discussions section of the Steam forums for details.
  • The developer stressed that the community pass was not the final localization.

This wiki records that timeline as a historical fact. It does not host or redistribute translation files.

What changed in Update 0.6.0?

Update 0.6.0 (September 9, 2026) added Chinese to the in-game language list so Chinese players could experience Scavland in their language sooner. NoShadow was explicit:

  • This was an early version of Chinese localization.
  • It was NOT the final or official translation.
  • Professional Chinese localization was still in progress and would replace and improve the early version when ready.
  • Feedback and corrections were welcome.
  • The studio planned to expand other languages similarly over the following weeks.

Later language expansions

Update 0.8.0 (October 17, 2026) announced new languages: Polish, Turkish, and Korean, stating Scavland was localized in all three. That does not replace the Chinese timeline above; it shows localization continued as a parallel workstream during Early Access.

For platform and Early Access expectations overall, see release date and Early Access. For the patch timeline that frames these posts, see Early Access update history.

How this wiki treats localization claims

  1. Confirmed from official notes as of the announcement date — apology text, early Chinese disclaimer, Polish/Turkish/Korean addition.
  2. Wiki playtest log: TBD — quality scores, remaining untranslated strings, font rendering on Steam Deck, or which menus still fall back to English.
  3. Editorial — we recommend checking Steam Discussions / Discord for community translation instructions rather than downloading random files from third-party sites.
